Hello peoples! After just coming back from Paris with a dozen or so photos created using a neat application on the iPhone called "Pano", I thought that it deserved a brief review here on my website.
If you haven't already and you have an iPhone, I highly recommend that you download the Pano application. It is a definite must-have application for the iPhone. At first, I was a skeptic. I'm not one to get all excited about iPhone applications. However, after a brief showcase by my brother, and knowing that I'd be traveling to Paris soon, I decided to give it a whirl and spend some cash for this - which is only $2.99 by the way.
I just italicized word "only" not because I wanted to empathize how cheap it is, but because I don't usually, if ever, spend money on iPhone applications. I used to be able to get 3rd party applications on my hacked iPhone and many of them were superior to a lot of the currently available ones. I still think all applications should be free, but that's up for a more extended debate/blog.
Anyhow, all of the panoramic photos you see on the top of my website is in fact created using my iPhone. Even though the iPhone sports a meager 2 megapixel camera, with good lighting, you can create some impressive panoramic shots that are web worthy. I haven't tried printing out anything yet, but I am sure if scaled down, the quality won't be too bad if I were to print a 3"x8" for example.
The interface is very simple to use. To create a Pano photo, all you would have to do is take a series of 3-4 photos (Pano lets you choose whether or not you want to take a 4th photo after the 3rd). After each photo, there is a translucent area of the previous photo on the left that guides you. After all 3 or 4 snaps, Pano takes about 5-10 seconds to create your Panoramic photo and stores it in your camera roll. Simple right?

Overall, I have no complaints other than the desire for Apple to come out with an iPhone with a 6+ megapixel camera. Oh yeah, let me squeeze in another rant that has been penting in me - where is that damn video recording application that they promised? Steve jobs definitely mentioned some kind of video recording capability at a few conferences and I've definitely downloaded/used one during my hacked iPhone 2G days so it's clearly possible. I know the camera sucks and the video quality would be sub-par but I nevertheless want a camera application dammit! Other than this one I found which requires you to hack your iPhone, I haven't found a legitimate working one in the app store. What gives Apple?!
